Oh Lord, Cause Even My Mistakes to Work for Me
By Ijeoma Ibekwe
Beloved,
There’s a prayer that’s been on my heart lately:
“Oh Lord, cause even my mistakes to work for me.”
It’s not a proud, demanding prayer—but a humble, broken, real one.
Because if we’re honest, life has moments where we truly believed we were doing the right thing… and then it all fell apart.
As children of God, we must understand a deep truth:
God loves us unconditionally.
This love is not based on our perfection. It’s not performance-based. It’s not about how many right decisions we make.
It is unconditional, unshakable, and eternal.
“I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.” – Jeremiah 31:3 (KJV)
But still… we fall.
We mess up—in our personal lives, relationships, businesses, ministries.
We make decisions we thought were right, and later realize they weren’t.
And when that happens, it’s not always the people around us who hurt us the most—it’s us. We turn against ourselves.
We become angry. We’re disappointed. And we stop trusting ourselves to hear God again.
And that’s where the enemy tries to sneak in with lies:
“You’ll never recover from this.”
“You messed up too bad this time.”
“God is disappointed in you.”
But hear me, child of God:
God does not condemn you.
The Holy Spirit does not condemn you.
“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” – Romans 8:1 (KJV)
The Holy Spirit gently convicts. He convinces. He invites.
And He says, “Cry out to Me. I will help you.”
We are sheep.
We wander. We stray. We stumble.
And yet—our Shepherd still loves us.
“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.” – Isaiah 53:6 (KJV)
Yes, we are still in this earthly flesh, so of course we will make mistakes.
But don’t let the enemy trap you in regret. Don’t let him paralyze you with fear or shame.
God wants you to move again. Try again. Step again. Build again. Trust again.
You are His. And He is yours.
No matter what you did—yes, I mean whatever it is—the blood of Jesus still speaks for you.
“The blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” – 1 John 1:7 (KJV)
So today, I invite you to pray this:
“Father, cause even my mistakes to work for me.”
Because the Word of God says:
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28 (KJV)
David: A Man Who Made a Big Mistake… but God Redeemed It
One of the most powerful examples in Scripture of God using someone’s mistake for good is David.
David was a man after God’s own heart (1 Samuel 13:14), but he made a devastating mistake.
The story is found in 2 Samuel 11–12.
David saw a beautiful woman named Bathsheba, the wife of Uriah, one of his loyal soldiers. He desired her, slept with her, and she became pregnant.
To cover his sin, David arranged for Uriah to be killed in battle. It was a great fall for a man who loved God.
But here’s what’s incredible:
David repented. He cried out in brokenness before the Lord (see Psalm 51).
And although he faced consequences, God still used him mightily.
From David and Bathsheba came Solomon, the wisest king to ever live, and from their lineage came Jesus Christ, our Messiah.
“Howbeit because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme… And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the Lord.” – 2 Samuel 12:14-15 (KJV)
Isn’t that amazing?
Even in David’s mess, God still brought forth glory, wisdom, and redemption.
It’s Time to Forgive Yourself
Beloved, I don’t want you to be in a place of stagnation any longer.
Forgive yourself.
Try again.
Try that business again. Maybe the first idea didn’t go as planned. That’s okay—God is still with you.
Mend that relationship. If it’s a God-ordained connection, ask Him for grace to restore it.
Reignite your ministry. Ask the Lord to breathe His Ruach—the breath of life—over what looks dry and dead.
You have so many gifts inside of you.
Let the Holy Spirit stir them up again.
This is not the time to give up. Not because of a mistake.
You Are Not Your Mistake—You Are His
Lay it at His feet today.
Jesus is waiting. And He says:
“My child, I love you.
You are not your mistake.
You are mine.
You belong to Me.
And there is nothing I won’t do for you.”
So cry out today:
“Oh Lord, cause even my mistakes to work for me.”
And watch Him turn it all around.
You are loved. You are cherished. You are never forsaken.
I love you all so much.
And until next time, walk in grace and be encouraged.
Be blessed,
Ijeoma
