It Was Not All Lost
As I sat quietly with the LORD, I found myself reflecting on a painful season I had just come out of—a season where so many areas of my life were under attack. My finances, my belongings… so much was shaken. It was a season of loss in many ways.
But in the midst of my reflection, I said to the LORD, “I know YOU can restore everything I’ve lost—YOU can even give me better.” And then I heard something so sweet in my spirit:
“It was not all lost.”
I sat with those words. It was not all lost.
Yes, there were tangible things that were taken from me. I may have lost money. I may have lost possessions. But I still have GOD.
Beloved friend, I don’t know where life finds you today, but I’m here to remind you that it was not all lost.
You have JESUS, who sees you. You have the HOLY SPIRIT, who comforts you. You have the KING OF KINGS, the GREAT I AM, the ALPHA AND THE OMEGA—your FATHER, your CREATOR. And HE says to you today:
“It was not all lost.”
I’m reminded of the story of JOB. The enemy came against him with fury—his health, wealth, and children were all taken. Yet GOD had a plan. Even in the loss, it was not all lost because JOB still had GOD.
“And the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning… He had also seven sons and three daughters. And he called the name of the first, Jemima… and in all the land were no women found so fair as the daughters of Job…”
— Job 42:12–15 (KJV)
When you have GOD, you have everything—because HE is everything. HE is the BEGINNING and the END, HEAVEN and EARTH, the ALL IN ALL.
I understand what it means to see your 401k disappear, to see your savings dwindle, to feel like you’re starting from scratch. But even in that place, GOD says,
“It was not all lost—because you still have ME.”
Because with GOD, there is more. With GOD, there is restoration. With GOD, there is increase.
And I’m reminded of another story. The children of Israel had been journeying for seven days in the wilderness with no water. Before they even arrived at the battlefield, they were already weary. But GOD spoke to the prophet ELISHA:
“And he said, Thus saith the LORD, Make this valley full of ditches. For thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not see wind, neither shall ye see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water…”
— 2 Kings 3:16–17 (KJV)
GOD told them to dig ditches even though it made no sense. And HE filled those ditches supernaturally.
So yes, you may have lost material things. But dig the ditch in faith. Prepare for the rain. Because GOD is not done.
HE is the ONE who shuts the mouth of lions. HE is the ONE who makes all things beautiful in HIS time. HE is the ONE who restores, who vindicates, and who blesses abundantly.
And so I say to you again, dear friend:
It was not all lost—because you still have GOD.
Reflection
Take a moment to look beyond what you’ve lost and focus on what still remains. You have JESUS. You have the HOLY SPIRIT. You have the FATHER who sees and knows. What might GOD want to build from your broken pieces? What ditches is HE asking you to dig today?
Prayer
FATHER GOD,
Thank YOU for this sweet reminder that it was not all lost. Even in seasons of deep pain and material loss, I am never without hope because I still have YOU. LORD, strengthen my faith to believe that YOU are the GOD who restores. Help me to trust YOU, even when I don’t see the rain, to still dig the ditches YOU’VE called me to dig. I believe that YOU are working behind the scenes, and my latter days will be greater than my former. I thank YOU for being my everything—my peace, my provider, my protector, and my portion. In JESUS’ mighty name,
Amen.
