In the Secret Place with My GOD

by Ijeoma Ibekwe, Healing Well of JESUS Ministries Intl.

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” – Psalm 91:1 (KJV)

There is a sacred space where the noise of the world fades, where burdens are lifted, and where the voice of GOD becomes clearer. It is not a physical room, though you can create one. It is not about a certain posture, though kneeling in reverence is beautiful. This place is called “The Secret Place” — and it is a spiritual sanctuary, a divine meeting point between you and the Almighty GOD.

What Is the Secret Place?

The secret place is not a mysterious or hidden location — it is a place of intimacy with the LORD. It is the inner chamber of your heart where deep calls unto deep, where distractions are removed, and your spirit communes freely with the HOLY SPIRIT.

In Matthew 6:6, JESUS said,

“But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy FATHER which is in secret; and thy FATHER which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.”

The secret place is a divine invitation into the heart of GOD — to know Him, to be known by Him, to be transformed by Him.

Why It’s Important to Spend Time in the Secret Place

As children of GOD, we are not called to live solely on public displays of faith, but rather to have deep roots in personal relationship. Here’s why:

1. You Become Aligned With GOD’s Will

When you spend time in the secret place, your heart begins to beat in rhythm with His. You begin to desire what He desires for you. Confusion breaks off and clarity floods in.

2. It is Where Healing Happens

The secret place is where GOD gently touches your wounds. Emotional pain, hidden fears, shame, rejection — all are brought before the Throne of Grace, and GOD pours out His healing oil.

3. You Receive Divine Strength

Life is hard. Ministry is heavy. Business can be exhausting. But in the secret place, you exchange your weakness for His strength. Like an eagle, you begin to soar again (Isaiah 40:31).

4. It is a Place of Revelation

GOD speaks in whispers, and you hear them clearest in silence. In the secret place, you gain spiritual insight, prophetic clarity, and the strategies you need for your next season.

5. You Grow in Love and Intimacy With JESUS

The secret place is not about performance — it’s about love. It’s about just being with your FATHER, your SAVIOR, your FRIEND. It’s sitting at His feet like Mary did, choosing the better part.

Biblical Examples: Two Lives Transformed in the Secret Place

1. Moses – The Man Who Spoke With GOD Face to Face

In Exodus 33:11, it says,

“And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend.”

Moses spent time alone with GOD on Mount Sinai, away from the noise of the Israelites. In those secret meetings, the laws were given, divine blueprints revealed, and the glory of GOD shone upon him so brightly that his face glowed.

His time in the secret place changed nations, and most importantly, it changed him.

2. David – A Man After GOD’s Own Heart

Before he was king, David was a worshipper in the fields. He wrote psalms not for an audience but as a lover writing to His GOD.

Psalm 27:4 reveals his heart:

“One thing have I desired of the LORD... that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life... to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in His temple.”

David’s victories in public came from his intimacy in private. He found strength, comfort, and guidance in the secret place — and GOD honored that.

GOD is Calling You Into the Secret Place

You are not too busy. You are not too broken. GOD loves you just as you are, but He loves you too much to leave you there.

In the secret place, GOD heals, restores, revives, and pours into you.

He wants your time.
He wants your tears.
He wants your heart.

The LORD is saying, “Come away, My beloved.”
Come — not with fancy words, but with an open heart. Come — not to impress, but to rest. Come and be refilled.

Reflection

  • Have I created a daily rhythm to meet with GOD in the secret place?

  • Am I more focused on public service than private surrender?

  • What distractions do I need to silence to hear GOD more clearly?

Take a moment to quiet your soul. He is already waiting for you.

A Prayer for the Secret Place

ABBA FATHER,
Thank You for always inviting me into deeper intimacy with You. Thank You for the secret place — a sanctuary of healing, wisdom, and love. LORD, stir my heart again to hunger for You. Forgive me for every time I prioritized other things above Your presence. Teach me to sit with You, to listen for Your voice, and to simply be still and know that You are GOD.

Let Your glory overshadow me as I dwell in Your presence. Restore my soul, renew my spirit, and set my heart on fire again. I long to know You more — not for what You can do, but for who You are. Draw me close, JESUS. I will meet You in the secret place.

In JESUS’ Name,
Amen.

May this blog inspire hearts to return to the One who waits patiently in the quiet — our GOD, our FRIEND, our FATHER.
He’s not far. He’s right there. Waiting for you…
In the Secret Place.
